About the Rolex Sky-Dweller

The Sky-Dweller is the most complicated watch Rolex makes, introduced in 2012 for people who travel often enough to need the watch to keep up. It shows a second time zone on an off-centre 24-hour disc and an annual calendar that knows the length of every month except February.

Rolex calls the calendar Saros, after the astronomical cycle, and it needs adjusting once a year. Everything is set through the fluted Ring Command bezel, which turns to select what the crown will adjust.

What to look for in a pre-owned Sky-Dweller

Setting

The Ring Command bezel is unlike any other Rolex. It is worth having it demonstrated once rather than working it out from the manual.

Metal

Rolesor in yellow, white or Everose gold, and solid gold. There is no plain steel Sky-Dweller, which keeps the family small.

Bracelet

Oyster or Jubilee, and on gold models an Oysterflex. At 42 mm the bracelet choice changes how large the watch feels.

Month display

The month is shown by a small aperture beside each hour marker. It is easy to miss until someone points it out, and then difficult to unsee.

Sky-Dweller prices in Malta

The Sky-Dweller is priced as a complicated watch rather than a sports model, and because there is no steel-only version the entry point sits above the Datejust.
