About the Rolex Oyster Perpetual
The Oyster Perpetual is the Oyster with nothing added. No date, no complication, no rotating bezel: just the waterproof case Rolex patented in 1926 and the self-winding movement it developed in 1931, which is where the two halves of the name come from.
Every other Rolex in this selection is a variation on it. For a lot of people it is also the most wearable watch in the catalogue, because there is nothing on the dial to date it.
What to look for in a pre-owned Oyster Perpetual
Size
Made in 28, 31, 34, 36 and 41 mm across recent generations, so it covers a wider range of wrists than any other Rolex family.
Dial colour
Traditionally silver, black or blue. Since 2020 Rolex has also produced a series of strong lacquer colours, and those have become the versions people ask for by name.
Metal
Oystersteel only. That is part of the appeal: there is no precious metal version to feel that you should have bought instead.

The Oyster Perpetual is usually the least expensive way into a Certified Pre-Owned Rolex, with one exception: the brightly coloured dials introduced in 2020 can ask more than the classic colours in the same size.
