About the Rolex Lady-Datejust
The Lady-Datejust arrived in 1957, a decade after the Datejust, as the same watch built to a smaller scale. It has been in the catalogue ever since and is the Rolex most often bought to mark something.
At 28 mm it is a genuinely small watch, and it carries the full Oyster architecture: waterproof case, self-winding movement, chronometer certification. Nothing has been simplified to make it fit.
What to look for in a pre-owned Lady-Datejust
Metal
Oystersteel, Rolesor in yellow, white or Everose gold, and solid gold. Rolesor is the most common on the second-hand market.
Bezel
Fluted, smooth or diamond-set. A fluted white gold bezel on a steel case is the classic Lady-Datejust look.
Dial
The range of dials is enormous, and includes mother-of-pearl and gem-set options that come and go from the catalogue. Discontinued dials are one of the better reasons to buy pre-owned.
Bracelet
Jubilee is the traditional choice and the most comfortable on a small wrist. Oyster and President also appear.
