Certified Pre-Owned Rolex Datejust

The Datejust, the epitome of the classic watch by Rolex.

Launched in 1945, the first self-winding waterproof chronometer wristwatch to display the date in a window at 3 o’clock on the dial. The Oyster Perpetual Datejust is offered in Oystersteel, in versions combining Oystersteel with yellow, white or Everose gold, or entirely in 18 ct gold, and a large variety of dials, bezels and bracelets. It is also available in diamond-set versions.

About the Rolex Datejust

The Datejust is the watch most people picture when they picture a Rolex. Launched in 1945, it was the first self-winding chronometer wristwatch to show the date in a window at three o'clock, and it has been in production ever since. More Datejusts have been made than any other Rolex, in more combinations of case, dial, bezel and bracelet, which is why it dominates the pre-owned market.

That variety is the argument for buying one second hand rather than new. A 36 mm Oystersteel Datejust on a Jubilee bracelet and a 31 mm Everose Rolesor with a diamond bezel are recognisably the same watch and completely different objects. Dials and bezel combinations that Rolex has discontinued only exist on the used market.

What to look for in a pre-owned Datejust

Case size

The Datejust is made in 28, 31, 36 and 41 mm. The 36 mm is the original proportion and the one that suits the widest range of wrists. The 41 mm replaced the Datejust II in 2016 with slimmer lugs and a thinner case, and the Datejust II itself, made only between 2009 and 2016, is the least common size in the family.

Bezel

A fluted bezel in white or yellow gold is the Datejust signature and catches the light in a way a smooth bezel does not. Smooth and domed bezels give the same watch a quieter presence. Diamond-set bezels sit at the top of the range and are marked RBR in the reference number.

Bracelet

Jubilee, the five-link bracelet designed for the Datejust in 1945, is the one most associated with the model. Oyster is flatter and more sporting. The choice changes the character of the watch more than any other single option.

Rolesor

Rolesor is Rolex's combination of gold and Oystersteel on one watch, and it has been a Datejust signature since the 1930s. Yellow Rolesor is the classic. White Rolesor usually means a steel case with a white gold fluted bezel. Everose Rolesor is the most recent of the three.

Datejust prices in Malta

Every Datejust in this selection is priced, so you can compare Rolex prices in Malta without having to ask. New Rolex prices are set by Rolex, so a new watch costs the same wherever you buy it. Certified Pre-Owned is different: each watch is priced on its own, according to its size, its metal, its bezel and the year it was made. That is why two Datejusts that look alike can sit some way apart. Prices are shown in euro and include VAT, and we ship across the European Union.

Buying a Certified Pre-Owned Datejust in Malta

Every Datejust here has been authenticated by Rolex, carries the Rolex Certified Pre-Owned seal and comes with a two-year international guarantee. You can see the watches at our Rolex Certified Pre-Owned showroom on Zachary Street in Valletta, or read how the programme works first.
