FROM EXPLORATION TO PRESERVATION: A COLLECTION
Edwards Lowell Co. Ltd launched the newest addition to their portfolio last week, with the official opening of The Green Room – a gallery space underneath the Rolex Boutique in Valletta. Guests were invited to view the debut exhibition at the gallery, showcased by Kurt Arrigo, internationally-acclaimed Maltese photographer. Mr. Arrigo and Edwards Lowell have worked together for many years and since 2004, he has been an official Rolex yachting photographer, covering every race around the globe, including Malta’s very own Rolex Middlesea Race.
The Collection is a special selection of 10 pieces celebrating the underwater world, a subject significantly close to Kurt in both his career and personal life. With this series, he wants to bring awareness to the environment, specifically a reminder of the fundamental role our seas and oceans play. Human’s impact on nature has become something Kurt feels evermore strongly about, driving him to seek its untouched beauty in remote places. From Malta to Tonga, Kurt has explored the world’s seas and oceans to capture these magnificent and rare images.
Several of the photographs from this collection were also featured as part of the Rolex greenroom at the 2019 Oscars, where nominees waiting to go up on stage to present or collect an award were taken on a journey to the bottom of the sea. The theme tied in with the Rolex Perpetual Planet Campaign highlighting the brand’s commitment to protecting our planet. For the 91st Academy Awards held at the historic Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Rolex transformed the backstage area into a glamorous greenroom fit for the world’s biggest stars, using Kurt Arrigo’s photographs. The Perpetual Planet Campaign is a partnership between National Geographic and Rolex, dedicated to the exploration and conservation of the earth, for the benefit of our future generations.
The Edwards Lowell Collection consists of 10 limited edition iconic images which have been printed in UltraHD photo print, creating impressive luminosity and depth. Attendees at the launch described the pieces as so vivid, they appeared to be backlit. The razor-sharp UltraHD Photo Prints are displayed perfectly under acrylic glass – this light, shatterproof material enhances the appearance of the images making the colours and depth truly pop.
Each print available is signed and numbered by the artist, exclusively available for sale by Edwards Lowell Co. Ltd.
