Breitling Chronoliner
Inspired by a Breitling model from the 1950s-1960s, the Chronoliner asserts itself as an authentic captain’s watch. Its signature feature is a broad bezel in scratch-resistant high-tech ceramic (an ultra-hard synthetic material), featuring an original star-shaped cut-out. AS THE MOON APPEARS…
In addition to the conventional approach – two discs which appear and disappear behind the wisps of a cloud – a series of elegant details give this moon a dreamlike quality. Bronze in colour rather than the traditional gold, its exceptionally brilliant surface shows traces of the lunar craters known as “maria”, formed by a highly complex layering of decals. Another tour de force is the lotus flower in the centre of the dial, which blossoms as night falls and the moon appears. This flower is created using mother-of-pearl lace designs measuring barely 0.2 mm thick, placed in two layers, with alternate polished and satin finishes.
The complication module has a push-piece at 9 o’clock enabling the moon to be indexed independently of the time and day, in order to match its phases to the geographic location of reference. This correction function has a safety system which protects the gear from accidental movement.
The Tonda Métropolitaine Sélène is available in a version with a white mother of pearl dial base and lotus, and a version with an Abyss blue dial – Parmigiani Fleurier’s signature colour – featuring a lotus blossoming in the same hue. Crafted in the Parmigiani Fleurier workshops, its movement is circular-grained and decorated on all faces.
