Speaking about the legacy of the race, Joe Said, the Deputy Chairman of the Valletta Grand Prix Foundation, said:

“The growing popularity of motorsport in international circles is what inspired us to create a yearly event that would attract numerous local and international enthusiasts to race on our beautiful island. Chopard have been sponsoring the ronowned Mille Miglia race in Italy for 27 years, so it is an honour for us to have them as official partners of our race, too.”

In line with this, Chopard and Edwards, Lowell are thrilled to be sponsoring this illustrious event for the third year in a row.

Malcolm Lowell, Managing Director of Edwards, Lowell, which is the official agent for Chopard in Malta, commented: “The Mdina Gran Prix is characterised by the beautiful setting of Mdina, the impeccable organisation, an enthusiastic audience, the public awareness and, above all, the originality and state of the valuable automobiles participating in the event.

“At Edwards, Lowell we like to support events that fulfil people’s passions. In car racing we witness the passion of engineering and design, as well as the art of automobiles. We take great pride in our role with Chopard as official partners of the Mdina Gran Prix.”

Chopard internationally, meanwhile, became the official timekeeper of the famed Mille Miglia race in 1988. That year they issued the very first Mille Miglia Race Edition, which was then reserved for the race’s participants. 27 years on, the 2015 edition keeps the tradition alive in stunning fashion and is available for public purchase.

The winner of the Mdina Grand Prix will receive Chopard’s Mille Miglia GTS 2015 – a watch known for its power, resistance and aesthetics.

This resolutely masculine timepiece bears all the hallmarks of Chopard’s expertise. Its stainless steel watch on a rubber strap features an emblematic black dial, with a power-reserve indicator at nine o’clock. Chronometer certified by the COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres), the movement is equipped with a stop-seconds function allowing precise adjustments.
