They say that time is money, and when you invest in a good watch, this couldn’t be truer.
All watches tell time; that is their basic function. But some watches increase in value as time goes by. We’ll be telling you all about why watches make a great investment in a future article, but here, Malcolm Lowell gives us the dish on his top five to actually invest in this year.
THE ROLEX DEEPSEA D-BLUE DIAL
The Rolex DEEPSEA D-Blue Dial Rolex have long been associated with diving and true, to their love for underwater exploration, the company took an active part in the Deepsea Challenge, a collaboration between film-maker James Cameron (known for his direction of Titanic and Avatar) and the National Geographic Society.
The Rolex Deepsea, which had to be created in just five weeks – was taken 10,908metres (35,787 feet) below sea-level, and, once again, Rolex cemented its status as the leading brand for waterproof watches and must-have time pieces. Editor’s note: We are not sure how long the Rolex Deepsea D-Blue dial will be available for, so it’s best to try and get one while they are still in production.

Encased in solid platinum, the 2013 Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is a powerful machine that allows drivers to perfectly measure average speeds of up to 300 kilometres or miles per hour – it’s your choice! The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona was first introduced in 1963 and has since become an iconic watch in the world of motor sports. Its famous version in platinum, with its unique ice-blue dial, was therefore launched last year to mark Rolex’s 50thanniversary.

The first ever self-winding Annual Calendar Chronograph by Patek Philippe was only created in platinum. Its complex movement – made up of 456 individual parts – was designed to be reliable and continuous. Editor’s note: This model has been recently discontinued making it more collectible should you be able to find one!

A masterpiece in design and craftsmanship, the Nautilus is a solid piece of timekeeping that comes with a sapphire-crystal case back, stainless steel bracelet and is waterproof to 120metres. Editor’s note: This model has also been discontinued making it very collectible, but some agents may still have pieces available. However, production continues for its stainless steel version with 18K rose gold, as well as the solid rose gold version.
