With the tagline ‘Instruments for Professionals’, Breitling promises precision in performance, functionality and top-of-the-range technology. Here’s a run-down of what makes Breitling so special.
Founded by Léon Breitling in 1884, the brand boasts various ranges of timers and chronographs, developed specifically for sports, science and industrial use.
Since heralding its first wrist chronograph in 1915, Breitling has been perfecting and updating its initial model to meet modern and contemporary needs with the utmost user friendliness. For instance, the stop/start function in their wrist chronographs proved extremely useful for timing sports competitions, and calculating flight times.
Between 1923 and 1969, the company added additional touches, including a second reset push piece, and presented the first self-winding chronograph movement.
1984 saw the rebirth of the mechanical chronograph with the launch of ‘Chronomat’, which they themselves describe as ‘dedicated to performance, sporting feats and surpassing personal limits’, a model which has been their leading product ever since.
Breitling’s Manufacturing and Reception
BREITLING MONTBRILLANT 01
Their revolutionary technology has made the Breitling brand synonymous with beautiful manufacturing and technological reliability.
Having initially become famous for its plane chronographs, which aided propeller-driven planes in World War II, the brand is still the first choice for aeronautic professionals and enthusiasts worldwide.
Their model ‘Emergency’ was the first wrist chronograph with an authentic integrated dual frequency personal locator beacon, and it placed them at the forefront of electronic watch making. Like ‘Chronomat’, it is now integrated and still manufactured to this day.
More recently, they continued making their mark with model ‘Caliber 01’, a high-performance self-winding movement, followed by ‘Caliber B04’ and ‘Caliber B05’, which include dual time zone and world time functions respectively.
The production of the brands’ own high-performance ‘Manufacture’ calibers alternates between technological scrutiny under the watchful eye of an ultra-sophisticated computer programme, and manual intervention.
From the precision and reliability of its movements, the functionality and protection of its cases, and the comfort and resistance of its bracelets, the brand promises perfection, durability and efficiency that lives up to its claim of creating instruments for professionals.
